Family Law + Divorce

What should I do if I am worried about domestic violence, or if I’m a victim of domestic violence?

Family Law + Divorce

If you are in immediate danger, either call the police or leave the house. The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) provides resources and immediate assistance to those in need. Always put your safety first, but if your situation allows, you may want to speak with an attorney about your specific circumstances prior to leaving the house.

The Domestic Violence Act offers several protections, for domestic violence victims, from temporary child custody to evicting your spouse from the home. There are even specific events that qualify for an immediate restraining order.
